The drawing depicts an hypothetical surrealistic (not so much) future scenario overlaid on present. The representation of walkways suspended higher and higher, in pink, hovers almost threatening on the current City of Venice, in black. La Serenissima is preparing for the gradual rise in sea level due to global warming, until it will be completely submerged. The sub, waiting on the walkway, is a slight anticipation of the fate that awaits Venice. He personifies the third time level, the more distant future, when the city can only be admired only by diving, rather than from gondolas as usual.
